Foundation Planning for Steel Buildings
A properly engineered steel building foundation is a critical first step in any metal structure project, providing a stable, level base that supports your building’s weight, meets local code requirements, and ensures long-lasting performance. Selecting the right foundation option early in your planning process helps streamline assembly and maximize the long-term durability of your steel building.
(Please note: The following are not included with your building kit but are suggested options to consider for your foundation.)
Permanent Foundation (Standard)
The concrete base foundation is a floating foundation with an 18″ wide and 18″ deep footer running around the perimeter of the structure. This type of concrete foundation has a “U-Groove” formation, referred to as a “trough-style or keyway foundation”, into which the assembled building is grouted.
Portable Foundation (Optional Purchase)
Unique to our style of steel building, the portable foundation (industrial arch connectors or “base plates”) is engineered specific to your building and is made from heavy-duty 14-gauge steel. It is affixed to a solid floating foundation with a footer as small as 10″ wide by 18″ deep. Staggered anchor bolts are used to connect the base plate to the concrete perimeter. The steel building is then assembled and bolted directly onto the industrial base plate. (Note: Anchor bolts are also purchased separately).
